These seeds either require cold stratification to germinate, or benefit from cold stratification for better germination rates. When we cold stratify seeds, we are either aligning with, or emulating a cold, moist winter. These seeds are very smart and will wait for winter to pass before knowing it’s time to germinate! Seeds that require cold stratification are often perennials who are adapted to a temperate climate with cold winters.
