It is with excitement that I share with you, dear reader, a dream for the future of Homestead Culture. This dream is a seed of an idea, yet to fully take shape—and we are excited to share it with you from its inception, so that we may dream together.

As our family been dancing with the spirit of Homestead Culture, we’ve become increasingly aware of our desire to contribute with community.

We are dreaming of sharing Homestead Culture with other rootsy folks who want to teach land-based skills online, in community.

Ann and I made the bold decision to allow our family brand to evolve into a community brand—and we are seeking others who want to join us.

We are dreaming of a tight knit cohort of like-minded folks who have some rootsy skills they want to share. With a diverse set of specialties and backgrounds, we will support each other through a shared brand and marketing.

Speaking for myself, I have quite a diverse set of homesteading skills that I practice, but I’ve come to realize that I prefer to teach a few topics that I am most passionate about.

And that’s where community really shines. Everyone has unique passions, skill sets and worldviews from which we approach life. Weaving diversity together will offer a rich experience.

As of today we are accepting applications to join this fledgling cohort of online homestead teachers.

What does an ideal homestead teacher look like to us?

✅ You have some well earned land-based skills that can help others live a better life, through connecting with nature, community, or themselves.

✅ You may or may not already have teaching experience (in person or online).

✅ You may or may not already have a small, rootsy business that will benefit from cross promotion with our brand.

✅ You resonate with our ethos.

✅ You would love to teach/give/work in community.

Some people I speak with are unsure or doubt if they are a homesteader. When they hear “homesteading,” many people immediately think of livestock and food preservation, but so much more is possible.

For example, skills like weaving, storytelling, gardening, business, healing, natural building, kitchen witching, permaculture, basket making, off-grid living, wildcrafting, bartering and much, much more all qualify too.

I argue that modern homesteading doesn’t even require owning land, nor does it require living in the country. (My travel savvy friends practice roadsteading.) Why hold ourselves back?

If you’re thinking outside the box about life skills, even better!

Truth be told, we are more interested in welcoming the right personality and value fit, than looking for any given specific skillset. Because Homestead Culture stands for changing culture—we are creating culture that we can be proud to pass on to future generations.

Because we are homesteading from the heart.
